I finished my degree at Laurentian two weeks ago and my job search is officially beginning today. Part of the reason for the delay is that I wanted to get my website up before I began begging creative directors for work, but honestly I really needed the time to decompress.
I’ll be detailing every aspect of my job search over the coming weeks, although the names of the people I come into contact with will be replaced with pseudonyms and their words will be paraphrased, but otherwise you’ll get a full access pass into my quest for gainful employment in a troubled economy. I doubt very many of you will be interested in following every step, but it will be reflective for me. Hopefully some of you will gain insight from my successes and failures.
The website went up yesterday and a personalized landing page went out to my dream employer. We’ll call them Rocko (taken from Rocko’s Modern Life, a timeless 90’s classic, see above). Rocko is a big time firm in a big city, and really I feel a bit out of my element even talking to them, but I dare to dream. The lead creative and I came into contact through a professional connection, and he graciously agreed to take a look at my site once it came into existence. We’ll see where that goes.
Today will be the day of twisting arms and calling in favours. I know a lot of important studio heads around the province, and three in particular (Skipper, Wallaby, and King) are good friends. I should be able to gain a few leads from them, and maybe a bit of freelance work. I’ll also be working on a list of targets to focus my efforts on.
