One of the great things about being so deeply involved in RGD Ontario is that I get the chance to get on a first name basis with so many fantastic and connected designers. I emailed one such person, we’ll call her Antoinette, last week asking for some assistance in my job search and she replied the other day. Besides being a tremendous advocate for accreditation, Antoinette is thoroughly connected throughout the Ottawa design and non-profit sectors. It just happens to be my dumb luck that she’s willing to use those connections to help me find work.
One of the best lessons I can give to any students reading this blog is a lesson in the human desire to help. If you ask someone for help, and they have an above-neutral opinion of you, they will likely give it. This is why networking is so important!
So thanks to Antoinette I have a few leads out in our nation’s capital (and one in Quebec) that I’ll be pursuing over the next little while. Three firms in particular strike my fancy, but I’ll write more on them as things develop.
